How Does It Work?
The calculator featured two scenario: New Deck and Resurfacing.
New Deck:
When it comes to installing a new rubber pool deck, there are various factors that can impact the overall cost. These include the size of your pool, the type and quality of materials used, labor costs, and any additional features or customization options.
To use our calculator for a new deck, simply input the area of your pool deck. You can do this by measuring the length and width of your pool deck and multiplying the two numbers together.
Prepare Base:
To ensure the longevity and stability of your new rubber pool deck, it is important to properly prepare the base before installation. This process include grading and compaction of the ground to create a level and solid base. This will help prevent any future shifting or sinking of your pool deck. Additionally, it is important to remove any existing vegetation, roots, or debris on the site before installing the new pool deck.
The preparing of base cost $1.50 – $6 per square foot, depending on the size and condition of the area. While it may seem like an added expense, proper base preparation is essential for a long-lasting and durable rubber pool deck.
Cost For Preparing Base = Base Cost * Area
Material Type:
Rubber pool deck usually comes with EPDM, SBR, and Poured-In-Place (PIP) materials. Each type has its own pros/cons and features.
- EPDM: EPDM (Ethylene-Propylene-Diene Monomer) are durable and UV-resistant. It comes in a roll and is glued to the base surface. It cost around $10 to $15 per square foot.
- SBR: SBR (Styrene Butadiene Rubber) is made with recycled rubber and is more affordable than EPDM. It is also durable and slip-resistant. However, it may not be as UV-resistant as EPDM. It cost around $4 to $8 per square foot.
- PIP: PIP (Poured-In-Place) Rubber is a rubber surface that is poured and smoothed onto a base surface. It offers a seamless, cushioned surface that is slip-resistant and great for high-impact activities. However, it can be more expensive than EPDM and SBR, costing around $9 to $18 per square foot.
Labor Cost:
The labor cost of pouring, placing and rubber type installation would be around $2 to $8 per square foot. This cost may vary depending on the location and complexity of the project.
Material Cost = Material Type Cost Per sq.ft * Labor Cost
Permits:
For commercial and residential projects, permits may be required for construction work. It is important to check with local authorities for specific requirements and fees. Permit costs can vary depending on the location and size of the project.
Additional Cost:
In rubber deck flooring, there are optional additional costs to consider such as UV treatment, color granules for PIP (Poured-in-Place) rubber flooring, and sealants for EPDM and SBR. These costs can add up to an extra $2 to $5 per square foot.
Additional Cost = UV treatment or Color Granules * Area
Total Cost of New Deck:
You have to add all the costs together to get the total cost of a new deck. The final price may vary depending on your location and complexity of the project, but it is important to factor in all potential costs when budgeting for your project.
Total Cost = Material Cost + Additional Cost + Labor Cost + Permit Fee
Resurfacing:
In resurfacing, the old and worn out deck surface is replaced with a new one. That add an additional cost to the project, but it can be a more affordable option compared to building a completely new deck. The other process remains the same as in building a new deck, such as designing and obtaining permits.
